Peacock is catching up with other streaming services by adding offline download support.
Peacock launched nationwide in July 2020, but missing one very important feature: offline viewing.
Now, NBCUniversal has introduced the ability to download shows to watch later to its streaming service.
How Does Offline Viewing Work on Peacock?
Thanks to the introduction of offline viewing on Peacock, you can now download shows to your iOS or Android device. The feature has been in the works since Peacock’s launch, but has only just come to fruition.
This means that you don’t need to have an active internet connection to enjoy shows on Peacock.
Of course, you do need to remember to download the show beforehand, so add it to your checklist before traveling. You’ll also need around 500 MB of free device storage to download an hour-long show.
The news comes from The Streamable, who first spotted the new feature.
According to Peacock’s sign up page, offline viewing is only available for “select shows”, though it doesn’t specify the exact catalog.
To download something, simply head over to its page and tap Download beneath the content. The show will then enter the queue, then download when enough storage space is available. Simply switch to the dedicated Downloads page to see everything you have stored.
Is Offline Viewing Available for All Peacock Users?
Not all Peacock users can use the new offline viewing feature.
That’s because it’s only available if you have a Premium Plus membership. The two lower tiers, both of which are supported by adverts, do not support offline viewing.
Premium Plus has no adverts and costs $9.99 a month, or $4.99 if you subscribe through Comcast or Cox.
Is Offline Viewing a New Feature?
Peacock is still in its infancy, much like Disney+, so it’s playing catch-up when it comes to adding features that other streaming services have had for a long time.
Amazon Prime Video lets you download movies and TV shows to watch offline for free. Here’s how to download Amazon Prime videos.
